Outlaw Way Camp Recap

Ive sat down to write this a few times but each time I do, I end up feeling very overwhelmed.

So lets try again….

Friday afternoon was our OLY lifting session. Worked up to our max snatch, then the C&J.

I learned a lot about these lifts, but I hit no PR’s. Was a little mad at myself, but I learned a lot so I’ll get over it. Anyone who was there will agree I am lucky to be alive and walking around :) Dropping 185 on your head is not ever good. Rudy suggested I maybe go pro in the circus? Not nice Rudy, not nice.

I took away from that so many new techniques to work with and a realization that I need to start forcing myself to max out more.

Saturday am was the open WOD. I decided there was no strategy that was going to be good for me mentally other than just do fkn burpees for 7 min without stopping. I was heat 4 and got to watch Talayna do her’s right before. She went for the entire 7 min and stopped to breathe maybe 3 times.

My apparatus was fantastic, a roller laid across two rings, taped in place with my very own personal boy standing on a box with a PVC pipe holding it in place so it didn’t swing. Need me to repeat that? Like I said, fantastic… I had Mike, Jess and Gio cheering me on thank God because I was off in the corner by myself. I finished with 120. I felt like it was solid enough, and I never want to do 120 burpees without stopping again. What kind of torturous minds are thinking up these WOD’s this year?

We had a few min of rest and went right into 5 RFT of: 10 GHD, 20 KB one arm snatch @35, 40 DU’s….time- 10:17

Then we had 30 min to get changed and meet at a pool……where we learned some swimming skills. Then for some crazy ass WOD in the pool, dirt HSPU on a fence, pistols in the grass, and broad jumps….yah happy birthday to me.

The last day was kind of sad because I knew it was coming to an end.

First task of the day was to establish a 5 RM front squat, from the ground. So I performed more circus acts such as landing a 180 clean on my knees and standing up with it, then continuing to complete 5 front squats. I figured I should prob stop there.

Next WOD was 3RFT: 400m run, 3 bar MU’s, a handstand walk, and 12 of the highest WBS I’ve ever seen. It was awesome to watch Dre, Jess, Gio, Josh, Guido, Noah and all the others crush this.

The lectures were hilarious, informative, and very valuable as a coach and an athlete. The coaching was intense and from the heart. It will go down in my book as one of the best weekends I’ve had yet.

T and I talked today about the “downer” side to these amazing CF events. For a few days you get to be around all of these fantastic people who live, eat, think and train like you. Then its over and you have to return to reality. The feeling I had driving home on Sunday sucked. So I came up with a solution…we should have CF compounds all over the place where only paleo food is served, CF is mandatory, and we all walk around half naked and in lululemon gear all day. Ha! as if we need to be considered more “cult like”…

Huge thanks to The Outlaw crew! And of course my 305 family, Jess, Gio, Dre, Mike, Serg, & Noah!

THANKS FOR A GREAT BDAY GUYS :)

12.1 & Outlaw Camp Pre Game Goals

So someone told me my last blog was good and I should do it often.

SHORT DISCLAIMER: If you read someones blog & you don’t like it. STFU. No one wants to hear your negative feedback. I refuse to not be ME, end of story.

The Outlaw camp starts tomorrow, and I am SO FUCKING EXCITED! Not just to get some kick ass coaching, but to hang with some cool peeps. I like to set goals and hold myself accountable…so herer they are:

C&J- 200

SNATCH- 160

12.1

Listen CF people. Stop complaining and analyzing. Just shut your trap and go hard. 7 min of burpees? HELL YES!

I will be back after camp to give you a recap and talk about my experience.

Caution Grounds Feb 18, 2012

20120221-184005.jpg

I drove over to Miami alone to compete in what I was told was a “small competition.”

They had 2 WOD’s posted on their website, one max lift and a “surprise” at the end…
When they changed the first WOD 5 min before we were supposed to go, I said to myself…oh boy here we go. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a power clean was switched to a hang power clean. The weight and reps stayed the same. So as all the female RX competitors stood around and bitched about the movement being unfair because it was harder, I smirked. Why? Because I fucking love hang power cleans. Why? Because we practice them as outlaws, and 105 is baby weight that’s why.
WOD 1: 9 min AMRAP- 6 bar hopping burpees, 9 HPC @105, 12 cal row. I finished with 5 rounds, 6 burpees….and took 1st in that one. Not bad for being apart of the big bitch clan.
Second event was a grip test with a 155 lb bar capped out at 4 min. took first in this one too, held that bar for the 4 minutes. Grip is not my forte, but 155 is less than I weigh, oh and also as an outlaw Rudy loves to rape our grip on a weekly basis. Thanks Rudy.
Third event was max rep KBS @ 70# in 3 min. I ended up with 55 reps and took first in this event as well.
Then came the max shoulder to overhead….8 min to achieve max weight.
My current max was 200, so my game plan was 185-195-205. When I nailed 205 I thought WTH let’s try for 210. Nailed that no problem. Why? Because I’m an outlaw that’s why and we practice that shit. Once again, the bearded Zeus is nailing the programming. Thanks for not programming air squats and push ups every day, barf.
Then came the dreaded chipper……I learned at Clash Of The Fittest that in the world of LB, body weight chippers are straight from hell. 40 TTB 35 pull ups 30 DL @155 25 box jumps @ 24″ 20 stationary lunges with 35lbs overhead 15 SDHP @70#…took me something ridiculous like 11:06. So I took 4th in that heat. With whatever points system they used I was still in first overall by 2 points…
Now for our grand surprise. WOD started at the box door & athletes had to sprint aprox 100 meters to a prowler push. 4 45lb plates and 2 25lb’s whatever that weight is…the push was 100 meters. Then pick up 2 sandbags and run back into the box, proceed to do 4 passes on the cage of death (monkey bars). I really surprised myself on this one, I was way better at it then I thought I would be. Then onto 3 muscle ups and three squat snatches at 110. Yah……no one finished it.
I made it to the muscle up’s with a decent leed and just couldn’t lock one out.
Apparently last WOD was winner take all and I ended up taking 3rd. Is anyone else confused by this?? Not only did we do 6 events and only expected 4, but they THREW OUT the first 5 events?! Never heard of that before and I can tell you I think it’s bull shit. Straight from the bull.
Special thanks to the Miami CF community, you guys are unbelievable. Janetssa, Dre, Amarys, Leo, Manny…THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!
